Clara is the newest member of the Experience Planning team and joins us following a stint at Alexander McQueen. We caught up with her to find out her first impressions of Dare, what makes her tick and ask the all important question: pineapple on pizza, yes or no?
How and why did you choose a career in UX?
I chose a career in UX because it combines my fascination for behavioural psychology and creative problem-solving. I particularly enjoy qualitative research such as observing and listening to others, so I can further understand their problems and help strategize solutions!
How would you describe Dare to someone?
Having only started a month ago remotely, I’d say warm, positive and welcoming!
What work are you most proud of?
My volunteer work - both digital and non digital! I used to host a supper club to raise money for mental health charities Papyrus and Child Bereavement UK. When that was no longer possible during lockdown, I helped with the first stage website design for a food delivery start-up that helps deliver groceries to those self isolating. (The common theme is always food)
If you were a plant, what would you be and why?
A calathea plant because they (also) originate from Colombia. They’re called ‘prayer plants’ because they have nocturnal movements - their leaves fold upwards at night and then are lowered during daylight, which feels similar to my day/night energy levels.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Read (a lot).
And what advice would you give to someone looking to break into the industry?
Talk to people, ask questions and take advantage of online resources (courses, articles, lectures, podcasts, webinars)
What's the weirdest habit you've picked up in lockdown?
Not finishing my cups of tea…
What should we all be listening to or watching at the moment?
The Sopranos because the themes are timeless. For music lovers “Broken Record” podcast with Rick Rubin and Malcom Gladwell (Questlove’s two part episode is my favourite)
Show us your self-portrait...
And most importantly - pineapple on pizza, yes or no?
I enjoy a sweet and salty combo so I’d definitely have a slice but would not order it.
